Covid: drones to transport medical material in Spain against coronavirus

Just three minutes. That’s how long it took a drone this morning to transport a Covid first intervention kit from Feria Valencia to Arnau de Vilanova Hospital. It was one of the experimental flights of a pioneering project in Spain, led by the Polytechnic University of Valencia and financed by the Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society. Its objective is to take advantage of all the potential that drones have in hospital management against COVID-19.

Within the framework of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society launched a call in March for the agents of the Valencia Region’s Innovation System to propose innovative solutions in the fight against the coronavirus. Among the selected projects, one of them, led by the Universitat Politècnica de València, works on the use of drones for transporting emergency material, medicines and laboratory samples.
