The city of Valencia has been chosen as the venue for the first edition of European Hyperloop Week (EHW), an international event dedicated to the fifth means of transport: hyperloop. Specifically, this means consists of a capsule that levitates inside a tube – by means of an electromagnetic support and guidance system – at low pressure as if it were practically in a vacuum and can reach 1,000 km/h as there is no friction force that prevents movement, according to the Hyperloop UPV (Polytechnic University of Valencia) student team in Valencia Plaza.
The week-long event in the summer of 2021 has been organised by Hyperloop UPV in collaboration with three other teams from different European universities, namely Delft (Netherlands), HYPED (Scotland) and Swissloop (Switzerland). The four student groups are focusing on research and development of scalable hyperloop prototypes so that they can be applied in society and solve current problems such as CO2 pollution from combustion engines.
